Labidoplax buskii

(MacIntosh, 1866)

Description
Body colourless or, when the genital organs are strongly developed, faintly reddish; up to 30 mm in length.

Tentacles
There are 11 tentacles (rarely 10 or 12), each with one pair of lateral digits and a long terminal digit (L. buski tentacle).

Tube-feet
There are no tube-feet.

Skin
The calcareous deposits consist of anchors and anchor plates. The anchors are narrower than the plates, and the arms are serrate. The anchor plates are of a regular shape with 6 serrate holes of equal size and with 1 or 2 slit-like holes in the narrow handle (L. buski spicules).

Habitat
This species lives in muddy bottoms, from depths of 10-420 m.

Distribution

Remark
L. buski is very similar to L. Media (Ostergren, j1905), but it has 11 tentacles, instead of 12, all with a long terminal digit and a single pair of lateral digits (instead of four digits).
